VISIT OUR ON-SITE BAIT & TACKLE SHOP FOR THE LATEST FISHING GUIDE RECOMMENDED GEAR!

  • Fishing Rods – We always have a selection of excellent fishing rods for all species that our guides recommend using. Bring the rod and reel that you feel most comfortable using and possibly look at upgrading when you arrive. Casting and spinning are the most popular and we always recommend medium to light action rods because they seem to allow the best action and hook setting ability.
  • Fishing Reels – Drag setting of your reel is what we feel is the most important feature that helps you bring in that big catch. Check out our Blogs for helpful tips for selecting the right gear for the fishing at Bakers Narrows Lodge….Most importantly, make sure your reel has a good drag system that allows for smooth release of your line throughout the range of the reel’s drag settings, and allows for easy setting of the drag.
  • Fishing Line – This really depends on the fish species…For Walleye 6-10lb test on an ultralight rod is fun all day long…For northern Pike you will be casting with larger lures such as SAVAGE GEAR (which we carry in our tackle shop) along with Power Pro Super Slick 50lb line. (No less than 150 yards for when that Big Pike turns and runs)
  • Lures – We have the latest and greatest tackle most of which has been recommended by our incredible fishing guides who know what works after spending hundreds of hours out on the water fishing. We always suggest to bring what tackle you already have however most will re-stock your supply at the lodge once they arrive.
  • Bait – Our bait is always the very best to ensure a very successful fishing adventure. Depending on the species of fish we use an assortment of the following bait.
    • Large and Small Minnows
    • Beef Heart
    • Sucker Belly
    • Hearing

These are just some of the things we suggest, also we suggest you prepare your own personalized checklist (medications etc..)

  • Good Rain Gear – rain coats and pants are a must, always carry it with you even if the day may start out bright and sunny, don’t let yourself get caught wet and cold
  • Sun Screen – we recommend the highest SPF you can find. Fishing on water makes you a triple target for sunburn (rays hit you off the water, off the boat and of course direct sunlight)
  • Quality Sunglasses – eyes need protection from the sun but also from flying fish hooks plus they help to reduce the glare off the water
  • Long Sleeve Shirts and a Hat – always a good idea for protection of the sun, and other weather surprises
  • Warm Jackets – we do have cool days and evenings too!
  • Insurance:
    • Car Insurance Policy – if you are driving to the lodge, make sure your coverage is valid in Canada and always carry it with you in case of an accident.
    • Travel Insurance Policy – Not a bad idea to have some Travel Insurance in place before departure.

Accommodations / Customs Information

What to bring and things to know when crossing the border from the USA to Canada and back?

One of the most frequently asked questions by anyone considering a fishing trip with us, or anywhere in Canada, is what should I expect at customs? Or, what kind of tackle should we bring? We have put together the following to help make your trip hassle free.

Important Customs Tips:

Proof of Citizenship
A passport is required. Things have changed since 9/11 so don’t let your trip be ruined, and always pack on the cautious side.

Children under 12 travelling with both parents need only a passport. However, if a child is travelling with only 1 parent, a letter from the other spouse is required, giving permission to bring the child into the country .

Liquor
As long as you are the legal drinking age you are allowed to bring across one 40oz bottle of hard liquor OR one case of beer without paying duty, you certainly can bring across more, but if you do, remember to be honest in declaring the amount, and be reminded that you will have to pay duty and taxes.

Cigarettes
you are allowed to bring across one carton of cigarettes (approximately 200 cigarettes) .. same rules apply as the alcohol if you want to bring across more (be sure to declare it all and you will have to pay the duty and taxes)

HandgunsAre Absolutely Prohibited
also keep in mind that radar detectors are also illegal in Canada

Pets
As long as you carry a written rabies vaccine certificate that is dated within the last 6 months you may bring your cat or dog into Canada.

Other information
You are breaking the law in Canada if you don’t wear your seatbelt when driving!!!

Credit Cards
Most American credit cards and pricipal bank cards are honored in Canada, at Bakers Narrows Lodge we accept Visa & Mastercard. Be sure to call your credit card company to let them know that you will be in Manitoba, Canada. It’s a good idea to mention that you will be staying at Bakers Narrows Lodge. This makes for hassle-free transactions with your credit card when visiting the area.

Health Insurance
We always recommend that visitors to Canada obtain “traveler health insurance” before leaving their origin country – you might find that your exisiting coverage is not valid outside your area of residence. Always look into this before you travel. The health care in Canada, hospitals and medical services are excellent, but again rates vary so this is why we suggest “travelers health insurance”. Also if you take medication, be sure to bring it with you as well as a doctor’s prescription renewal in case you were to run out or misplace your medications.

Re-entering the U.S.48 Hours Or Less
You may only bring back $25.00 or less into the U.S. duty free. Over 48 hours – As long as you can document your stay in Canada exceeded 48 yours you may bring with you $400.00 in purchases tax free.

Tobacco and Alcohol
If you are eligible for the $400.00 exemption, you may bring back one carton of cigarettes OR 200 cigars regardless of your age. If you are over 21 years of age you may bring back 1 litre (33.8oz) of alcoholic beverage regardless if it is for your own use or as a gift.

Wildlife and Fish
Fish may be imported according to the possession limits shown on your fishing license and Manitoba angler’s guide. You must leave a patch of skin on all fillets, and the fish must be packaged flat (only 2 fillets per package). Your fish has to be transported only by the licensee.

DUI’s
DUI’s are a criminal offence in Canada, and do not expire over time. Contact Pardon Services for ease of access at the border. Customs agents can, and in the past have, turned back visitors to Canada when a DUI shows up on their record. Pardon Services is able to help you get that off your record.

About Us / Testimonials

CM Edmunds – September 2021

One of the best trips we have ever taken. Took the “Taste of the North” package available in summer. Highlights were the pontoon trip to the limestone cliffs with guide, Greg, who is very interested in nature and was willing to show us bird nesting areas. Another highlight that came with the package was local entertainment… Flin Flon has a great cultural scene so try to take in some live entertainment. “Taste of the North” also had a geology tour which was highly detailed and interesting. (If you aren’t science minded, the geology tour might be a bit intense, but was perfect for us.) We also tasted seasoning from the boreal forest, which is super interesting if you like the woods. The Lodge itself has beautiful cabins and very good food. Dinner menu is limited to a choice between two entrees; which I like because then you know the food is fresh. They didn’t seem to have vegetarian options, but always served fish when we were there. Maybe ask if they can accommodate vegetarian… I’m thinking vegan wouldn’t be available.

Lyndon Vrooman – September 2021

I don’t know that I can say enough good things about Bakers Narrows Lodge. We used this as our home base while exploring the surrounding area. Its the perfect location for vising The Pas, Flin Flon, Rocky Lake, etc. We had expected to get there a little bit later, but ended up arriving early. No problems from them. We were rather hungry when we got there and they were happy to fit us in for dinner. My wife doesn’t like the taste of fish, but loved dinner that night. She even insisted that we buy some of the breading to bring home. Breakfasts are just the right size (ok, maybe sometimes there was a little too much food :) ) The main lodge does have a number of tables set up, but, there’s a great mix of people to mingle with. When we checked into the cabin, we were amazed at how well made up it was. It’s true that all you need to bring with you is your clothes and any food if you’d like. Stove, coffee makers, sink, microwave, fridge, bbq, cutlery, dishes, and pots and pans. The cabins are spaced out enough that you would never even know that you have neighbours by the sound. We had brought enough clothes with us to last our entire time, but, after realizing that there was laundry service, we decided to try it out and not have to worry about putting dirty clothes back in our bags. Imagine our surprise when it even came back folded! When we booked, only the family cabins were available. It seemed to work out well for us though. The beds were very comfortable and the windows provided enough light that you would not need to turn on a light most of the time. A walking trail surrounds the peninsula with a number of birds available to be watched. The view of Bakers Narrows and North Arm are rather beautiful. We didn’t actually get around to any fishing, however, we did have a chance to speak with a number of people who had been. All of them had been excited about the size of their catches. All in all, this is a little slice of heaven, and everyone involved in running it make certain that it feels that way. As it was, when the time came for us to checkout the next day, we decided to book another day. The next time that we come North, we will be sure to stay here again. My advice to you, come here.

Blair Hersikorn – September 2019

I just stayed at Baker’s Narrows Lodge on a three day, four night package that included two days of guided fishing and one day of unguided boat use. The entire trip was fantastic! I am originally from the Flin Flon area, and even my expectations were exceeded by the lodge, the staff, and the scenery. The cottages were extremely clean and equipped with everything needed for cooking meals, including a BBQ. The two days of guided fishing were with John Wolters and were done from a 21 foot Lund Pro Guide boat that was extremely comfortable to fish from. The guided portion of the trip included 1 day of fishing for Walleye and 1 day of fishing for Northern Pike on Lake Athapapuskow. The one day of unguided fishing was done out of the lodges 18 foot aluminum boat with a 50 HP motor, casting deck, and depth sounder. This was my first time at the lodge and I am already planning to return next year.

Consistently Amazing

We’ve been to BNL 5 times over the last 13 years and each time it’s been incredible. The lodging, meals and fishing are always great and Brett, Peg, Rod and the entire team are truly a pleasure to be around. Take the time to get to BNL and it’ll be one of many times you’ll return!

Comfort away from home!

Well, where do I start. Brett and his family / staff does an amazing job of making people’s visits to the narrows a truly enjoyable time. I was here on business, and they really have a great place and a unique way to make you feel comfortable while your here. This isn’t my first trip to Bakers narrows and it definitely won’t be my last.
I would like to thank Brett and his wife for providing Us with exceptional hospitality, great meals and genuine friendship. The more I come here the more comfortable it is. It’s like a home away from home.
Thanks again. See you sooner than later guys.

Robert Burke – January 2018
Winnipeg, Canada

It’s worth the trip from Winnipeg!

We arrived for a 2 night stay on July 24 at Bakers Narrows. We travelled with 2 adults, 1 child (age 7) & a dog. The lodge is easy to find from the highway, everything throughout the grounds is well marked. The cabins & grounds are all pet friendly which is excellent. We were checked in right around 3pm and everything was ready. The check in process went seamless & quick. The staff are all very friendly and helpful if you have any questions. We stayed in Cabin #1 which is very close to the park, lodge, beach & volleyball court. It’s a great location. The continental breakfast is served in the lodge, quite a bit of variety. The lodge is free to use, it’s very convenient if you are travelling with a group; there’s lots of space inside & out on the deck area. The flowers on the grounds are beautiful. The beach area is small but useful. A great benefit is that there’s canoes, kayaks, a floating dock w/ diving board, a waterslide and paddle boats for guests to use. Fun for all ages. Cabin #1 has 2 bedrooms, 1 bath w/ shower, living/dining room area. The cabin was VERY clean, we were impressed. The beds were comfortable. The housekeeping staff do a great job at paying attention to the little details; dish soap brush filled, provide a bag of rags and lots of towels provided. The cabins have satellite tv. Shower had great water pressure. The cabin had everything we needed. The BBQ & covered deck area with chairs was a nice bonus. Every cabin has their own firepit area & there’s also a group firepit area. There is free WIFI & the signal is fairly strong throughout. The surrounding area of Flin Flon is beautiful, the people are friendly and the town has all the essential services. We would stay again at this property, my only recommendation is to stay longer than 2 nights!!

Great place to stay for business or pleasure. Stay here every time I’m in Flin Flon (8-12 times a year) usually here on business but I don’ t let that stop me from enjoying the fishing, fire pit or BBQ.
